Exploring Locally Sourced and Sustainable Alternatives to Bitumen for Road Infrastructure Development in Uganda
1. Funding: The Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (UNCST), in collaboration with its Development Partners, will provide a USD 100,000 grant alongside a USD 20,000 contingency fund to support research activities. 2. Laboratory Access: UNCST will facilitate access to state-of-the-art research equipment and Civil Engineering Laboratories for the selected partner institution. This access will be enabled through UNCST’s existing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with partner universities, ensuring the use of advanced facilities for material testing and analysis. 3. Pilot Sites: In coordination with the Ministry of Works and Transport, UNCST will assist the selected partner in securing 2–3 designated road sections across Central and Western Uganda. These sites will serve as real-world testing grounds for evaluating the performance of alternative road construction materials.
